Build Targeted Lead Lists
When you want to target a specific segment of businesses, you can define that segment in the Enigma Console Segments page by combining filters for industry, location, revenue, and more. You then generate a preview of the matching businesses and export them as a file.
Let's walk through an example. Say you sell point-of-sale software to restaurants in New York, and you need a list of leads: open restaurants in the state with enough revenue to afford your product.
Build a segment
Navigate to the Segments page. You'll see the heading Build a segment with the prompt "Generate a list of businesses matching your criteria" and a set of filters:
- Brand: filter to specific brands by name, website, or Enigma ID.
- Industry: search for an Enigma industry description or a NAICS code. For this example, type
restaurantand select a matching industry. - Location: search for a state or MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area), or add a city or ZIP code. You can select multiple locations. For this example, select
New York. - Operating status: filter by whether locations are open, closed, temporarily closed, coming soon, or unknown. Select
Open.
To filter on business performance and contact attributes, select Show advanced filters. This reveals:
- Annual revenue (12m): enter Min and Max dollar amounts. Enter
100,000in Min to require at least one hundred thousand dollars in card revenue over the trailing twelve months. - Annual growth rate % (12m): enter minimum and maximum year-over-year growth percentages.
- Open locations: bound the number of open locations a brand has.
- Reviews count: bound the total number of online reviews.
- Contacts: check Has phone numbers or Has emails to require contact information.
Select Hide advanced filters to collapse this section again. Once any filter is set, a Reset button appears next to Generate; select it at any time to clear all filters and start over.
When your filters are in place, select Generate.
Preview the results
The results page shows counts of matching Brands and Operating locations, along with a preview table of matching businesses. These are two of the primary entities in the Enigma data model; switch between the tabs to preview either one. Use the filter sidebar on the left to refine your criteria and regenerate the results without returning to the landing page.
Because the Enigma business data set is constantly evolving, your counts may shift over time, but the segment definition stays stable.
Segments can filter on many attributes beyond this example, such as:
- Industry attributes, such as NAICS code and Enigma industry descriptions
- Contact attributes, such as whether the business has associated phone numbers or email addresses
- Status attributes, such as the count of operating locations or their operating status
- Financial attributes, such as annual revenue and growth rate
Export the list
To turn your segment into a lead list, select Generate segment file below the preview table (labeled Generate full segment file when the segment has more than 10 results). This starts a four-step flow:
- Template: choose a preset attribute layout for brands, operating locations, or legal entities, or start from a custom layout.
- Attributes: select the attributes to include for each business.
- Columns: review and rename the output columns.
- Review: name your segment file and confirm the configuration.
Select Next to advance through the steps, then select Submit export on the Review step. File generation runs in the background; when it starts, a confirmation appears with a View segment file link. You can download the finished file from the Files page.
